Bluewater Wind’s Offshore Wind Park Approved in Delaware!

This is an update to our April 30, 2008 Article:
Huge Off-Shore Wind Farm Close to Approval for Delaware
On Monday, June 23, Bluewater Wind announced an historic agreement with Delmarva Power that will lead to the development of the nation’s first offshore wind park in Delaware, bringing with it new jobs and long-term, stable-priced, clean and reliable energy. This is very very good news!
Just two days later, the legislation needed to implement the agreement was passed unanimously by both chambers of the Legislature and signed into law by the Governor. Bluewater Wind is now awaiting final approval of the contract by the same four state agencies that unanimously selected Bluewater Wind to work with Delmarva Power over a year ago.
If you’re someone who contacted the Delaware Senate as a result of our newsletter article last April—a big thanks!! This might not have happened without the support and encouragement of people like you.
Under its agreement with Delmarva Power, Bluewater Wind will provide up to 200 megawatts of energy in any given hour. They will also supply some energy to the Delaware Municipal Energy Corporation. In the next two years, as they move through the permitting process (they will need at least 25 different government permits), the size of the wind park may grow and with it, the amount of clean energy provided.
We believe the agreement between Bluewater Wind and Delmarva Power is a good deal for Delmarva’s ratepayers and a great opportunity for all of Delaware. With final state approval of this agreement, Delaware will immediately become a leader in the new clean energy economy and take control of its energy future.
