Creating A Peaceful Relationship With Your Body
By Liz Berney (View full profile)

Finally—A voice of reason in that eternal battle so many of us fight on a daily basis:  Our war with food and our weight!

To paraphrase Einstein, one can’t solve a problem at the same level of consciousness at which it’s created. So then why do we continue to diet to lose weight when we know full well we will eventually gain that same weight back? Why do we swear we will be “good” tomorrow and then fail to achieve that “goodness”? Why instead are we not reframing and exploring our relationship with food and our bodies?

Book Review: Complete Idiot's Guide to Green Living

Here's a great book to start learning with!  Whether you're just getting interested in sustainability and green living, or you're already using solar panels, there's plenty here for everyone.  Author Trish Riley is an award-winning environmental journalist (2 recent national awards) and she starts at the beginning with an overview of why it's important to "go green" and moves on to how to actually begin doing it.  The book is extremely comprehensive in scope, though understandably not as detailed and in-depth as some might want.  Her intended audience is both individuals and businesses and there are many ideas and sections for each outlined in the book.  This is a great introduction to and education about concepts, products, methods and options for making our environment cleaner, healthier and much less reliant on fossil fuels. There are numerous practices we can all embrace right now, many you may not have thought of before.  Easy to read and well organized--highly recommended.

Buy Fresh Local Foods at an Online Farmers Market

The University of Maryland has created a website where consumers can now buy directly from farmers through a new online farmer's market.  FoodTrader.org lets small, independent Maryland farms create listings of fresh foods for sale, as well the price and location.  The site, launched by the university's Environmental Finance Center, went live July 15 and has listings from more than 20 farms offering products that include specialty cuts of meat, fruits, vegetables, flowers, honey, dairy products and even soap made from goat's milk.  What a great new resource!

How about a fast eco-friendly way to raise some cash for broken electronics you’d probably just throw away!

Here’s a website where you can recycle broken or used electronics for cash.  The company pays you for broken, outdated items and reuses them for working parts, then correctly recycles whatever parts are left.  Keep our landfills free of these items.

They purchase Apple iPods,  iPhones, Cell Phones, Smart Phones including Blackberry, Treo, Nokia, HTC, LG, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, Samsung, and Sanyo, PDAs, Zunes, Game Consoles including Nintendo Wii, Microsoft X-Box, Sony PlayStation or PSP. And they don't really care about the condition of your gadget.  Keep your eWaste out of the landfill and get some quick cash in return! http://www.BuyMyTronics.com/

There’s a YouTube video from MSNBC about the service on the site as well. << View Video
