    Introduction
What are you doing towards creating the future that you want to live into?

What can we create together that we cannot create alone?

Cohousing Collaborative, LLC is a full-service development company that collaborates with groups to co-create joyous, sustainable communities using the cohousing model in the mid-Atlantic region.

Our core mission is to develop authentic, green, sustainable communities with the highest standards of ethics, excellence, and stewardship. Through a fully integrated wholistic team approach, we enfold the values of connectedness, living lightly on the land, and sustainable economy in the nurturing of community and the making of places to live, work, and play.

Cohousing communities are small-scale mainstream developments where neighbors are ... friends! Fully equipped, privately owned homes are clustered around a community building we call a Common House. Cohousing communities are organized as condominiums but they differ in six key respects:

  1. They are designed and developed in concert with the future residents who have a lot of say in the look and feel of the community.
  2. The community is managed by the residents themselves.
  3. The community owns an extensive amount of property in common.
  4. Architectural design features enhance the feeling of community.
  5. Cars are relegated to the edges of the community. They are not family members.
  6. Decisions are made by the residents using a collaborative decision making process
Cohousing communities are non-ideological and non-income sharing. They combine the perfect balance of private places and public spaces.

With its reduced carbon foot print, emphasis on sharing resources and support for the individual,  cohousing communities are models of economic, social and environmental sustainability.

We are currently working to bring green living to Falls Church in Fairfax County, Virginia through a cohousing community in the heart of that "Little City."  On a tree-lined street, just blocks from the Farmer's Market, the community center, library, shops, restaurants, etc. it is a truly walkable urban area just 15 minutes from the nation's capital by metro -- an example of Smart Growth, urban in-fill development.   This will be a very urban community that will most likely appeal to boomers, empty nesters, people downsizing or in transition, whether single, married or with a significant other.  But ALL are welcomed.
