![]() Shiatsu-Based Wellness Support ![]() Shiatsu is an Asian form of bodywork that uses finger pressure and other techniques to address the energetic system of the body as the ancient Chinese understood it. Shin tai combines both Western and Eastern modalities to offer a more individualized treatment based on the receiver's needs in any given moment. Through my practice as well as personal experience, I've come to see first-hand how our emotional issues and unexpressed "stuff' becomes physical restriction, pain and illness. It is my intention, through the use of this meridian-based modality, to bring awareness to the receiver of where they are 'stuck', and the connection between their emotional and physical states. It is through the recognition and release of old patterns that we experience renewed health, vitality, grace and a sense of responding fully to the present moment rather than reacting from unconscious habits. ![]() My primary modality is Shiatsu. However, I also bring to my practice my experience as a mom of four homeschooled sons, and my own forays into macrobiotics, herbs, mindfulness meditation, and other self-improvement processes. I write about these regularly on my website and in my monthly newsletter. The clients that work the best with me tend to be women, in or having been in some kind of caretaking capacity (moms, care for elderly parents, co-dependent relationships, psychologists) They have some awareness, ranging from vague suspicion to active particpation, that the physical issues they carry are connected to repressed or stuck emotional trauma. They sense that they are living less than their full life expression and have made a decision to be active participants in reclaiming their power and life force. ![]() Shiatsu, literally meaning 'finger pressure' is a Japanese modality based on the Chinese meridian system of acupunture. Meridian can be described as pathways throughout the body carrying 'chi' or 'life force' which, when believed to be 'blocked' or deficient, can lead to symptoms and illness. As in acupuncture, the shiatsu practitioner will sense which meridians are imbalanced and will regulate the flow addressing specific points with pressure along those pathways. Shiatsu, however, will also use techniqus such as stretching, rocking, massage, and holding to bring balance to the meridians. Not all bodies, however, respond readily to meridian work. Shin tai (meaning 'source body' )combines other modern modalities with shiatsu, such as cranio-sacral, fascia work, structural alignment and chakra opening, to offer a more specific and individualized treatment. The Shin tai practitioer uses awarenes to find which level provides the most immediate access to the core energy system. For Frequently Asked Questions about shiatsu and shin tai, click here. I also provide a 30-minute Acupressure Facial... a point-based massage that not only tones the facial muscles, smoothin away lines and enhancing circulation, but can also relieve things like nasal congestion, eye strain, headaches and jaw tension. A manual for giving yourself an acupressure facial is in the works, as well as other self-care manuals.
