Aromatherapy is a holistic treatment which can be traced back to the Egyptians 5000 years ago. It involves the therapeutic use of essential oils extracted from various parts of plants for physical, mental and emotional healing and well-being. Aromatherapy promotes self-healing and is known to reduce stress, generally believed to be the root cause of many illnesses. Essential oils are highly aromatic and are sometimes mixed with carrier oils or directly on the skin, in compresses, baths and in massage. A common method is to simply inhale the fragrance.
